Hoses of the Holy in the Parallel Universe

December 02, 2005

Sometimes I wish I could feel everything with the same sense of vibrancy, novelty and excitement that I did when I was fifteen.

I'm sure that the senses actually become duller as we get older.

And it gets to feeling like there is nothing new left; no surprises. At least not happy ones.

Everything is too complex and full of switches & snags.

Is it just the dark nights drawing in?

  • If you were fifteen you'd have been born in the year 2000. Scary thought.

  • Sorry, I mean 1990, of course. Must be the senility setting in.

  • I feel like that sometimes, but I rather think it's a state of mind than a dulling of the senses. You can breed in yourself an intrinsic level of excitement at what you see and experience, it's just finding it again.

  • Thanks for all your comments.

I can remember when I thought people born in the 1970s were just children, Marie!

Sam, I tried using artificial substitutes for that intrinsic level of excitement that you mention, like alcohol, but they just made me ill.

I could always try crack I suppose.

    Not really.
