Improvements to the Inner City

Dog's post below about nasty commuter trains got me thinking about how things are always being made better.

There's a small area in the city centre that is being redeveloped. It's named Trinity Square. The history of development on the chunk of land might serve as a social commentary for England and what makes it tick.

First it was a church and cemetary. The victorians were preoccupied with death, or rather the prospect of an afterlife.

And then that was knocked down and replaced with a multi storey car park. The Englishman's home is his car.

Now that's going to make way for the latest phase. They're putting up a leisure complex combined with student accomodation. I mean, we can't get enough of either of those, can we. It's a bit of a joke really.

  • I never quite forgave them for demolishing the old Trinity Square shops and the Evening Post offices where the Cornerhouse now stands...
