More4? Less is more, you mean
I see that More4 launches next week, on Monday evening.
Frankly, my brain can't cope with any more TV channels. I can barely be arsed to set the recorder as it is, even for programmes I love. You start getting into stuff and then you're gutted when you forget to watch it. There are now 11 mainstream, free-to-air channels on a double spread of Radio Times for prime time. And that's before ITV4 launches. I can't possibly take that much information in. I see what's on BBC1 at nine o clock, by the time I'm across at ITV2, I've forgotten what it was. Oh yeah: Waking The Dead.
I was offended by the Channel 4 "adult entertainment" trailer thing. Those people always manage to put you off things, managing to make even the best shows (*thirtysomething, The West Wing, Northern Exposure, The Sopranos, Desperate Housewives) seem like the kind of crap you wouldn't watch. Now they've done it for a whole channel, by using a porno motif to launch More4.
And yet they didn't bother (yet?) to register more4.co.uk or more4.com. Must mean the internet is dead. I knew it wouldn't catch on.
The good news is that there is almost never anything worth watching on BBC1, 2 ,3 or 4 these days (pace Bob Dylan documentaries). Why do I pay my licence fee again? Oh, yeah: CBeebies.
