Cobblers!
Jane Garvey, broadcasting genius, just made me crack up.
She read a weather forecast, always her favourite part of the day, and it included the phrase, "Some of the Home Counties may even see snow."
Within minutes, one of Five Live's listeners had texted in to ask what on earth "Home Counties" was supposed to mean. Leaving aside the fact that this listener's response is yet another example of the edges being knocked off our culture by those who would dumb everything down to the level of the lowest common denominator, Garvey's response was,
"It's supposed to imply that the South is 'home' - it's cobblers."
